Hisashi Eguchi's origin of illustrations was "Cover Art of Comics!" Influenced by the cover art of Tsubame Kamogawa's "Macaroni Horrenso," he was introduced to illustrators such as Teruhiko Yura, Hideto Suzuki, Hiroshi Nagai, and Seiichi Hayashi through the magazine Illustration, which was founded in 1979. Hisashi Eguchi was experimenting with various styles of illustrations, and often drew cover art for cartoons that had nothing to do with the main story. He experimented with expressing through pitch differences without using colors, drawing only with lines, making woodblock prints with a brush, and using screen tones to depict the shadows of glasses. It is also said that Hisashi Eguchi was the first to use color tones in cartoons.
